Baseball Recap: Moriah Has No Trouble Against Saranac Lake

Moriah hadn't done well against Saranac Lake recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Vikings blew past the Red Storm 16-3. This was a revenge game for the Vikings: when they faced off against the Red Storm last Thursday, they had to take a 8-3 defeat.

Joe Pelkey was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joey Kazlo, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cooper Allen, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

The win got Moriah back to even at 1-1. As for Saranac Lake, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Moriah has already played their next game, a 9-4 defeat against Ticonderoga on the 9th. As for Saranac Lake, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Beekmantown at 4:30 p.m. on the 15th.
