Baseball Preview: Conotton Valley Rockets vs. Malvern Hornets

Conotton Valley and Malvern are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Conotton Valley Rockets will head out on the road to square off against the Malvern Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Conotton Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Last Monday, Conotton Valley narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Malvern 4-3. The win was just what Conotton Valley needed coming off of an 18-10 defeat in their prior match.

Logan Reiter and Zach Putnam made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Reiter tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Putnam tossed an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits (he also didn't allow any walks). At bat, Reiter scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Putnam scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooks Bower, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Bower is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's stolen at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Conotton Valley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. As for Malvern, they dropped their record down to 1-3 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
