Basketball Recap: Dan River Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Dan River duked it out withPatrick County on Wednesday. The Dan River Wildcats took a 46-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patrick County Cougars. The loss leaves the Wildcats without a win on the season.

Despite the defeat, Dan River saw an underclassman step up: freshman Liza Maxey posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cara Barrett, who had four points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Dan River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 18 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Dan River's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Patrick County, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Bassett the next time they take the court. Dan River will host Bassett at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Patrick County will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
