Basketball Recap: Chandler Takes a Loss

Chandler has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were one points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 70-69 heartbreaker at the hands of the Morgan Trojans.

Despite the loss, Chandler still got an impressive performance from Markayla Shirley, who went 8 of 11 on her way to 27 points in addition to seven assists and three steals. With that strong performance, Shirley is now averaging an impressive 15.6 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Karina Hunter, who posted seven points.

It was another big night for Eva Birkeland, who went 9 of 18 on her way to 26 points for Morgan. The game was Birkeland's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Bella Nelson, who went 5 of 8 en route to 13 points.

Chandler's loss dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Morgan, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Chandler will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Gilbert at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Morgan, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 60-36 loss against Prestonwood Christian North on the 20th.
