Softball Recap: Lincoln Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Lincoln dropped their record down to 14-16 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pontiac Indians. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Railsplitters' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Pontiac, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-8. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games.

For Pontiac's part, Elena Krause made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Krause has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Krause wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tessa Collins, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. India Mattingly also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Coming up, Lincoln will face off against Mahomet-Seymour at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pontiac, they will host Coal City at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Coalers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.89 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of.
