Football Game Preview: Manvel Mavericks vs. Dobie Longhorns

The Manvel Mavericks will square off against the Dobie Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Manvel comes in on four and Dobie on three.

Manvel got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kenneth Malone Hayes out in front who rushed for 108 yards and three scores on only nine carries. That's the most rushing yards Malone Hayes has posted since back in November of 2024. Another rusher making a difference was Eric Mosley III, who rushed for 116 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Manvel was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 347 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 187 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

Manvel didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Samuel Weary led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. He has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last six times he's played.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Dobie against Alvin on Thursday as the team secured a 38-7 victory. The result was nothing new for the Longhorns, who have now won five contests by 20 points or more so far this season.

Manvel's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Dobie, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Manvel might still be hurting after the 53-33 defeat they got from Dobie in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Mavericks, Cameron Mathews (who rushed for 244 yards and three TDs while picking up 10.2 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
