Softball Recap: North Takes a Loss

North fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against North Canyon on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They lost 18-10 to the Rattlers. The Mustangs just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Solis Coker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and 14 unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jayla Santiesteban stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Atiana Rios, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

North's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for North Canyon, their victory bumped their record up to 2-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North will welcome Alhambra at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for North Canyon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Buckeye at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rattlers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season.
