South Sevier hasn't had much luck against Delta recently, but that could start to change on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
South Sevier is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against San Juan last Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Rams took a blow against the Broncos, falling 66-21. The Rams were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-7.
Although South Sevier took the loss, they still got scores from Cooper Castle, Hudson Smith, and Grady Heaps.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 42 points the game before, Delta was a bit more limited in their matchup last Friday. They and Emery were almost perfectly matched up, but the Rabbits suffered a 7-6 defeat. The loss continues a trend for the Rabbits in their meetings with the Spartans: they've now lost three in a row.
South Sevier will have to contain Jett Rawlinson as he made an impact in Delta's last game. He rushed for 265 yards and one score while picking up 10.2 yards per carry. Rawlinson was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 58 yards.
Even if they lost, Delta's defense still kept up the pressure with seven sacks. Drake Quackenbush was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three himself. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 14. Another thorn in Emery's side was Carter Anderson, who picked up a sack and made 13 total tackles.
Having lost for the first time this season, South Sevier fell to 9-1. As for Delta, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. South Sevier has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 233.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Delta struggles in that department as they've been averaging 213.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for South Sevier against Delta in their previous meeting back in September, as the team secured a 69-27 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Rabbits' Korver Pace, who picked up 141 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Rams still be able to contain Pace? There's only one way to find out.
