Jocelyn Schiller named 2023-24 North Dakota MaxPreps High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year

Red River senior finished career second all-time in state with 2,344 points.

Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in prep girls basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023-24 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.

Jocelyn Schiller of Red River (Grand Forks) is the 2023-24 North Dakota MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 5-foot-7 senior guard led the Roughriders to a 24-3 record and third-place finish in the Class A tournament.

For the season, Schiller averaged 28.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 5.0 steals per game. She poured in a season-high 45 points in a 70-63 semifinal loss to Davies (Fargo).

Red River is 46-5 over the past two seasons with a Class A title in 2023. No. 2 on North Dakota's all-time career scoring list with 2,344 points, Schiller fell just 27 points shy of Sarah Jacobson of Shanley (Fargo), who finished her career in 2016 with 2,371 points.

Also a track and field and cross country standout for Red River, Schiller will continue her basketball career at the the University of North Dakota after signing with the program in November.



Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 11. Past selections include 2023 WNBA Most Valuable Player Breanna Stewart (2012) as well as 2023 All-WNBA first team picks Napheesa Collier (2015), Alyssa Thomas (2010) and A'ja Wilson (2014).
