Football Recap: Pickens Comes Up Short

Pickens extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 1-4. They fell 50-42 to the Blue Ridge Fighting Tigers. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (41), the Blue Flame still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Pickens lost, don't look at Brooks Dow. Despite the final result, he threw for 326 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 126 yards. A healthy portion of Dow's aerial production (112 yards to be exact) went to Issac Arnold.

As for Blue Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 3-1. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Gavin Forrester had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 159 yards and three TDs on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 103 yards while completing 73.3% of his passes. Those 159 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

Looking ahead, Pickens will head out on the road to square off against Berea at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Flame will be up against the Bulldogs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Blue Ridge, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Landrum at 7:30 p.m.
