Baseball Game Preview: Eastern Randolph Wildcats vs. Asheboro Blue Comets

The Eastern Randolph Wildcats will head out to challenge the Asheboro Blue Comets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Eastern Randolph is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Eastern Randolph is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of Faith Christian.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Asheboro). They walked away with a 10-5 win over Montgomery Central on Thursday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Blue Comets as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Gavin Allen made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Allen was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Shane Immel was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Sam Gore was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs.

Asheboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.

Eastern Randolph's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Asheboro, their record is now 6-15.

Asheboro's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Eastern Randolph has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Asheboro, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Eastern Randolph keep running through batters, or will the Blue Comets buck the trend?

Eastern Randolph came out on top in a nail-biter against Asheboro in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Blue Comets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
