Basketball Recap: La Vernia Comes Up Short

La Vernia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 68-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bishop Badgers. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Bears came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 270th, while the Badgers are ranked 946th).

Bishop was led to victory by James Garcia and Kristian Ramos. Garcia almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds, while Ramos dropped a double-double on 24 points and 15 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Miguel Valdez, who posted ten points.

La Vernia's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Bishop, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8.

La Vernia is taking a road trip to face off against Pearsall at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Bishop, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Needville at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Bishop is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57 points per game this season.
