Football Recap: Harding Piles Up the Points Against St. Vincent-St. Mary

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Harding). They claimed a resounding 42-6 victory over the St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish. The Raiders have beaten the Fighting Irish the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Fighting Irish has come to flipping the script.

Harding found their leader in sophomore Makhai Brogden, who rushed for 135 yards and a pair of scores on only 12 carries. Brogden's longest rush was for an impressive 54 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. The team also got some help courtesy of Patrick (Kai) Blutcher, who picked up 44 receiving yards and two TDs.

Harding was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 246 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Harding didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Asa Burch, Johnny Williamson, and Blutcher picked up one apiece. Burch got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The win got Harding back to even at 2-2. As for St. Vincent-St. Mary, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Harding will take on Ursuline at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Raiders' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for St. Vincent-St. Mary, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Elyria Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th.
