Football Game Preview: DeSoto Eagles vs. Horn Jaguars

The DeSoto Eagles will head out to face off against the Horn Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. DeSoto has given up an average of 29.7 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

DeSoto is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Texas' top teams: Duncanville, who was ranked third at the time (DeSoto was ranked 15th). The Eagles came up short against the Panthers and Pantherettes on Friday, falling 48-28. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Loss or not, DeSoto got some senior leadership from Ethan Feaster and Legend Howell. Feaster picked up 147 receiving yards and a pair of scores, while Howell threw for 236 yards and two TDs. Those 147 receiving yards set a new season-high mark for Feaster.

Meanwhile, Horn played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 56-20 defeat at the hands of Waxahachie. The Jaguars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-7.

DeSoto will have to keep a close watch on Kai Furtch and Donta Ware, a pair of players who had a big impact on Horn's prior game. Furtch picked up 161 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Ware threw for 207 yards and two TDs on only 17 passes.

DeSoto's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-3. As for Horn, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Everything came up roses for DeSoto against Horn in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 65-24 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
