Recap: Thornton Wildcats vs. Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings

The Thornton Wildcats and the Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings (ranked 50 and 43 in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile matchup. Thornton fell just short of Homewood-Flossmoor by a score of 65-63. Thornton's defeat signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.

Thornton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Meyoh Swansey, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds. Swansey continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Green, who scored 11 points along with nine assists and five rebounds.

Thornton's defeat dropped their record down to 20-3. As for Homewood-Flossmoor, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-2 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thornton's road trip will continue as they head out to face Kankakee at 6:30 p.m. on January 30th. Kankakee is on a nine-game streak of home wins, Thornton a seven-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Homewood-Flossmoor, they will head out on the road to face off against Sandburg at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sandburg will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Homewood-Flossmoor is ranked second).
