Baseball Recap: Corbin Has No Trouble Against Estill County

Corbin was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Estill County on Saturday. The Redhounds were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Engineers. The Redhounds have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Engineers, too.

Will Freeman tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Corbin let Kade Elam and Cam Estep run wild. Elam went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Estep got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Estep is becoming a predictor of Corbin's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-2 (and 6-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Dallas Merida, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Corbin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Estill County only posted an OBP of .250.

Corbin now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Estill County, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-6 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Corbin will head out to challenge Williamsburg at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Yellow Jackets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.93 runs per game on average), something the Redhounds will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Estill County, they will challenge Powell County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
