Baseball Game Preview: Loveland Red Wolves vs. Thompson Valley Eagles

The Loveland Red Wolves will square off against the Thompson Valley Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Loveland has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Loveland managed to slip by Fort Collins the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Red Wolves came up short against the Lambkins on Wednesday, falling 13-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Red Wolves have suffered against the Lambkins since April 21, 2016.

Loveland saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Karter Butler, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Thompson Valley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over Timnath. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Thompson Valley also got a great performance from Malachi Dougherty as he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave Dougherty a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Garet Hendrickson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.

Loveland has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Thompson Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.

Loveland skirted past Thompson Valley 2-0 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will the Red Wolves repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
