Volleyball Recap: Highlands Ranch Takes a Loss

Highlands Ranch's tournament run continued when they took on Centaurus on Saturday. The Highlands Ranch Falcons took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Centaurus Warriors.

Highlands Ranch was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-23.

Derek Pierce paced Highlands Ranch's offense, picking up seven kills. Pierce got some help from Kyle Feddler and his eight assists.

Centaurus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Braden Walls led the charge by getting 13 digs. Walls is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had ten or more in each of the last four games he's played.

Highlands Ranch dropped their record down to 1-5 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to aces: they averaged an imposing 6.14 aces in those games compared to only 2.33 in the others. As for Centaurus, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.

After both having extra time off, Highlands Ranch and Castle View will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court one another at 6:00 p.m. on March 25th. This will be Castle View's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Centaurus, they have already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against George Washington on the 18th.
