Softball Recap: Cascade Bruins vs. Stanwood Spartans

Cascade lost a close one when they played last Tuesday but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on Thursday was a bit more commanding. They wound up on the wrong side of a tough 18-4 walloping at the hands of the Stanwood Spartans. Cascade was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Stanwood apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Lauryn Thompson was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Gehrig, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

On Stanwood's side, Addi Anderson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (she also didn't allow any walks). Anderson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Stanwood got a massive performance out of Reagan Ryan, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Scarlett McEwen was another key contributor, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Cascade has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season. As for Stanwood, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

Cascade will head out on the road to face off against Sedro-Woolley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Sedro-Woolley will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Cascade surely won't give up without a fight. As for Stanwood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Everett at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Stanwood's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Everett's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
