Defiance has gone a perfect 7-0 against Shawnee recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will face off against the Indians at 5:00 p.m. Defiance is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Defiance's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 4-0 win over Archbold.
Garyson Smiddy tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Defiance's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Colt Ward, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shawnee). Everything went their way against Piqua on Monday as they made off with a 14-7 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Shawnee considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Shawnee also got a great performance from Bryce Windau as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Shawnee is 2-1 when Windau allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-15 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Tate Bender was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carder Daily, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Defiance's victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Shawnee, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-16 record this season.
Shawnee's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Defiance has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .454. It's a different story for Shawnee, though, as they've only averaged .340. Will they be able to contain Defiance's hitters?
Defiance took their victory against Shawnee in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
