Basketball Recap: Gateway Olympians vs. Thomas Jefferson Spartans

If Gateway was riding high fresh off their 85-39 takedown of Hinkley back in December of 2024, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Gateway Olympians took a blow against the Thomas Jefferson Spartans on Thursday, falling 78-48. While losing is never fun, the Olympians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 275th, while the Spartans are ranked 125th).

Gateway's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Famara Cherif, who posted six points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahmed Mohammed, who earned 12 points.

Shane Curry was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds for Thomas Jefferson. Gateway wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 63-42 defeat against Bear Creek on the 11th. Thomas Jefferson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Adams City likes a good challenge.
