Basketball Recap: Webster Thomas' Higher State Rank on Full Display on Wednesday

Webster Thomas lost to Gates Chili back in December of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Webster Thomas Titans walked away with a 47-34 victory over the Gates Chili Spartans. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Spartans are ranked 291st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Webster Thomas is also on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Gates Chili, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Webster Thomas will face off against Penfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Penfield knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 15 matchups -- so hopefully Webster Thomas likes a good challenge. Gates Chili has already played their next game (against Irondequoit), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
