Baseball Preview: St. Anthony Bulldogs vs. Mater Dei Knights
The St. Anthony Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Mater Dei Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. St. Anthony is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
St. Anthony let Charleston stack four runs on them in the second inning on Wednesday but luckily St. Anthony prevailed anyway. The Bulldogs walked away with a 7-4 win over the Trojans. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Brock Fearday was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Fearday, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Collinsville hit Mater Dei with a nine-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Knights lost 10-0 to the Kahoks. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
St. Anthony pushed their record up to 11-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Mater Dei, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
St. Anthony was able to grind out a solid win over Mater Dei when the teams last played back in March of 2024, winning 5-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
