Basketball Recap: Excelsior Classical Academy Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

While Excelsior Classical Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 0-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They snuck past the Woods Charter Wolves with a 53-47 win on Thursday. The victory was nothing new for the Flying Lions as they're now sitting on four straight.

Excelsior Classical Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alpha Brothers out in front who went 9 for 15 on his way to 21 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Those 21 points gave Brothers a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Shawn Francis-Service, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 16 points and four steals.

Despite the loss, Woods Charter saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Alden Phelps posted 20 points in addition to seven boards and six steals. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for Phelps. Another player making a difference was Grant Richardson, who had 12 points and four steals.

Excelsior Classical Academy's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. As for Woods Charter, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Excelsior Classical Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 42-40 defeat against Woods Charter on the 16th. As for Woods Charter, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 61-20 win against River Mill on the 13th.
