Preview: Spanish Springs Cougars vs. Flagstaff Eagles
The Spanish Springs Cougars will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Flagstaff Eagles at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Spanish Springs' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests.
Spanish Springs has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 25 points or more this season. They blew past Galena 58-33.
Spanish Springs' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaliyah Vance, who scored 16 points along with five steals. Vance continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Layni Noonkester, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Flagstaff's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 48-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ventura. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Flagstaff has scored all season.
Spanish Springs is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Flagstaff, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Spanish Springs suffered a grim 63-37 defeat to Flagstaff when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Can Spanish Springs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
