Alexa Beeson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Steele, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Madi Moreland, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.
Decatur kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Springtown only managed nine hits.
Meanwhile, Burkburnett had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against the Lions by a score of 8-3.
Like Decatur, Burkburnett also got a great game from a two-way player: Kennedy Smith. On the mound, she struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Lydia Duff was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. Another player making a difference was EJ Dominguez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Burkburnett's victory bumped their record up to 9-15. As for Decatur, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.
Burkburnett's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Decatur has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. It's a different story for Burkburnett, though, as they've only averaged .357. Will they be able to contain Decatur's hitters?
Decatur took their victory against Burkburnett when the teams last played back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 6-0. Will Decatur repeat their success, or does Burkburnett has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
