Softball Game Preview: Bacon Academy Bobcats vs. St. Bernard Saints

The Bacon Academy Bobcats will square off against the St. Bernard Saints at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Bacon Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so St. Bernard's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Bacon Academy is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They fell 8-5 to RHAM.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for St. Bernard's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Woodstock Academy on Wednesday. The match marked the first time this season in which the Saints were not able to get on the board.

Anabelle Wenzel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, St. Bernard saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Scribner, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

This is the second loss in a row for St. Bernard and nudges their season record down to 5-5. As for Bacon Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Bacon Academy might still be hurting after the 14-7 loss they got from St. Bernard in their previous matchup back in May of 2019. Can the Bobcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
