Baseball Recap: Pickens Academy Wins Going Away Against Marion County

On Saturday, the Pickens Academy Pirates got the win against the Marion County Red Raiders by a conclusive 15-2.

Ace Gregory made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only four walks, the fewest he's had since back in February of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs.

In other batting news, Hudson Pennington was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. Whitt Shirley was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

The win got Pickens Academy back to even at 1-1. As for Marion County, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Coincidentally, Pickens Academy and Marion County will both be playing Lynn the next time they take the field. Pickens Academy will host Lynn at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Marion County will play them later in the day, at 12:00 p.m.
