Baseball Recap: Ashe County Comes Up Short

Ashe County scored first but ultimately less than Hibriten in their contest on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 4-3. The Huskies haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Kye Pennington spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gavin Eller and Drew Cheek stepped up to the plate in a big way. Eller scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Cheek scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Ashe County's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Hibriten, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-6.

Coming up, Ashe County will head out to square off against Mount Airy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hibriten, they will be playing at home against Watauga at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pioneers have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
