Basketball Recap: Powers Catholic Takes a Loss

Powers Catholic lost against Carman-Ainsworth back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Powers Catholic Chargers fell just short of the Carman-Ainsworth Cavaliers by a score of 90-88. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (69), the Chargers still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Powers Catholic lost, don't look at Javontae Ross. Despite the final result, he went 10-for-16 to rack up 35 points and six assists. Ross is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 43% in the last eight games he's played. Dempsey Cull was another key player, going 5-for-9 on his way to 13 points.

Ross wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Powers Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 21 assists in four consecutive matches.

Powers Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 17-2. As for Carman-Ainsworth, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-5.

Powers Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 75-50 win against Dow on the 19th. As for Carman-Ainsworth, they will venture away from home to square off against Davison at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Davison is on a three-game streak of home wins, Carman-Ainsworth a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
