Basketball Preview: Kaufman Lions vs. Farmersville Farmers
The Kaufman Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Farmersville Farmers at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Kaufman took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 57-23 victory over the Foxes. Given Kaufman's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 387th, while the Foxes are ranked 872nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kaufman found their leader in underclassman Alizay Gonzalez, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. It was the first time this season that Gonzalez scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Garrah Prox, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Farmersville didn't have too much trouble with the Foxes on the road on Tuesday as they won 58-40. 58 seems to be a good number for Farmersville as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Kaufman is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-12 record this season. As for Farmersville, their win bumped their record up to 14-16.
Kaufman strolled past the Farmers in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 45-26. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kaufman since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
