Football Recap: American Fork Takes Down Ranked Timpview

American Fork faced Timpview in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Cavemen were the clear victors by a 48-25 margin over the Thunderbirds. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Cavemen just coasted through the last quarter.

Nate Childs had an outrageously good game as he threw for 203 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes, and also rushed for 50 yards and one score. David Dean did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 101 receiving yards.

American Fork's run defense was locked in: Timpview could only muster 2.6 yards per carry. While four picked up at least four total tackles, Jaybian Na'a stood above the rest. He picked up 0.5 sacks, forced one fumble, and made four total tackles (1.0 for loss). American Fork didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.2.

American Fork didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Beckham Rees.

Despite the loss, Timpview still got an impressive performance from Dennis Tuaone, who picked up 73 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 38 yards and one score. The Thunderbirds also got help from Steel Richards, who showed off his sure hands for 91 receiving yards.

American Fork has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 41.5 points this season. As for Timpview, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, American Fork is headed away from home for the first time to challenge West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Timpview, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Lone Peak at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
