Softball Preview: Orange Cove Titans vs. Corcoran Panthers
After six games on the road, Orange Cove is heading back home. They will take on the Corcoran Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Wednesday, Orange Cove was able to grind out a solid win over Woodlake, taking the game 8-3.
Mia Castillo spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than six innings in 11 consecutive pitching appearances.
At the plate, Star Elizondo was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Hazel Ocejo, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, a triple, and a double.
Corcoran was handed a eight-point loss in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against Farmersville on Monday. Corcoran narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Farmersville 7-5. The win was just what Corcoran needed coming off of a 10-2 defeat in their prior matchup.
Corcoran also let their pitcher toss all nine innings and she was also dialed-in: Aliyah Andrade gave up three earned (and two unearned) runs on 12 hits.
On the hitting side, Neveah Garcia and Elvira Escalante did most of the damage at the plate: Garcia went 1-for-3 with three RBI, a triple, and a run, while Escalante scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Emilee Santos, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Orange Cove has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season. As for Corcoran, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6-1.
