Basketball Recap: Snowflake Skates Past Payson with Ease

Snowflake had won ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they bumped up to 22-1 to make it 11. They claimed a resounding 56-20 win over the Payson Longhorns. The Lobos have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 games by 24 points or more this season.

Snowflake was led to victory by Ranell West and Josie Clare. West dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards, while Clare posted eight points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. That's the most points West has posted since back in January of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryn Kupfer, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Snowflake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.

As for Payson, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss they have suffered since January 2nd.

Despite the defeat, Payson saw an underclassman step up: freshman Bebhinn Wile shot 50% from the field en route to 10 points and three steals. That was a full 50% of the Longhorns' points, marking the third time in a row Wile has put up more than a third of the team's points.

Snowflake wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 64-26 victory against Blue Ridge on the 23rd. As for Payson, they have also already played their next game, a 42-20 win against Northwest Christian on the 26th.
