Football Recap: New Hampstead Comes Up Short

New Hampstead had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-8 to make it six. They took a blow against the Benedictine Cadets, falling 49-13. While losing is never fun, the Phoenix can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the Cadets are ranked 28th).

Despite the loss, New Hampstead still got an impressive performance from Ari Theriot, who picked up 94 receiving yards and one score. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 62 yards.

As for Benedictine, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-2. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.4 points over those games.

Benedictine's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Stephen Cannon, who threw for 267 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 69 yards and one TD on only seven carries. That's the most rushing yards Cannon has posted since back in August of 2024. Eron Mallard was in the mix too, providing Benedictine with two scores.

New Hampstead does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Benedictine, after each having a week off, they and East Forsyth will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th.
