Basketball Recap: Elite Scholars Academy Comes Up Short

Elite Scholars Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Lamar County Trojans and fell 60-11. While losing is never fun, the Royal Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 496th, while the Trojans are ranked 143rd).

Lamar County found their leader in sophomore Makayla Watts, who posted 11 points and five assists. Another player making a difference was Alexia Jackson, who had six points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals.

Elite Scholars Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Lamar County, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.

Elite Scholars Academy will head out to face off against Lake Oconee Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lamar County, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Rutland at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lamar County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season.
