Game recap

Davie (Mocksville, N.C.) jumped out to an early lead against Mount Tabor (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and never looked back on the way to a 24-7 victory on Saturday.

The War Eagles scored 14 points in the first quarter. Davie scored on a touchdown run by Cade Carney and a Carney touchdown run.

After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Carney in the first quarter, DHS led 14-7 at the half.

The Mocksville school expanded its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. The War Eagles scored once in the quarter on a touchdown run by Carney.

Carney stood out for Davie in the win. The freshman quarterback ran for three touchdowns.

The Spartans' lone touchdown came on a 3-yard run in the second quarter.

DHS went into the matchup giving up only 8.4 points per game.

The victory will ease some of the sting of the War Eagles' close 32-28 loss to Mount Tabor last season.

The loss comes after Mount Tabor defeated R.J. Reynolds 58-0 last week. The victory was a step in the right direction for Davie, which was coming off a 13-10 defeat at the hands of West Forsyth in its previous game.

Davie (7-2) goes up against Reagan in a 4A Central Piedmont game matchup next week, while Mount Tabor (4-4) locks horns with West Forsyth also in a 4A Central Piedmont game.
