Basketball Recap: Rio Linda Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Rio Linda can finally bid farewell to their nine-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Valley Christian Lions, sneaking past 56-53. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since February 8th.

Despite the loss, Valley Christian still got an impressive performance from Josh Becker, who went 8 for 20 on his way to 23 points and six steals. Those six steals gave Becker a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of James Shevchuck, who posted seven points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals.

Rio Linda's victory bumped their record up to 2-9. As for Valley Christian, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Rio Linda and East Nicolaus will round out the year against one another at at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Valley Christian, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Argonaut at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
