Basketball Recap: Newport Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Newport was the 45-43 winner over Ryle when they last played one another back in March, but their luck changed this time around. The Newport Wildcats took a 49-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ryle Raiders. The matchup marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Newport's loss on Tuesday came despite strong showings from James Turner and Griffin Starks. Turner dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds, while Starks went 5 of 11 on his way to 15 points and three blocks. Turner is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last four games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Amontae Lowe, who posted eight points.

Newport's defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2. As for Ryle, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newport will welcome Campbell County at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Ryle will take on Newport Central Catholic in a holiday battle at 7:30 p.m. on December 17th at.
