Basketball Recap: Xavier Dunn's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Prattville over Wetumpka

Prattville lost against Wetumpka last Monday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Prattville Lions took a 76-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wetumpka Indians. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (59), the Lions still had to take the loss.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Xavier Dunn, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 18 points and seven assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Lewis, who posted 15 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Prattville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 18 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Wetumpka's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tom Suddith led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 16 boards. With that strong performance, Suddith is now averaging an impressive 8.8 rebounds per game. Andrew Voyles was another key player, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 boards.

Prattville has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points per game. As for Wetumpka, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Prattville and Percy Julian will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Prattville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Percy Julian likes a good challenge. As for Wetumpka, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Autauga Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
