Basketball Game Preview: Newnan Cougars vs. Starr's Mill Panthers

Having just played yesterday, the Newnan Cougars will jump right back in to play the Starr's Mill Panthers at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Friday, Newnan beat Morrow 57-44. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 141st, while the Mustangs are ranked 362nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Starr's Mill, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They took their contest on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 75-48 victory over McNair. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 22 points or more this season.

Starr's Mill has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.3 points per game. As for Newnan, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.

Newnan came out on top in a nail-biter against Starr's Mill in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, sneaking past 53-50. The rematch might be a little tougher for Newnan since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
