Football Recap: Kinston Vikings vs. Shelby Golden Lions

Kinston and Shelby squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Kinston had to settle for second. They had to suffer through an 84-41 loss at the hands of the Golden Lions. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Vikings have suffered since December 6, 2024.

Kinston lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Tyreek Copper, who picked up 229 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He showed off some serious burst, connecting on a big catch for 69 yards. Brennan Chambers also helped out with an impressive 103 receiving yards.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Kinston, racking up 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Chambers, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Lan Farmer continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Shelby, throwing for 458 yards and eight TDs while completing 74.1% of his passes, and also rushing for 38 yards and a pair of scores. Those eight passing touchdowns gave Farmer a new career-high. Lorenzo Roseboro also helped out as he racked up 147 receiving yards.

Kinston's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-5. As for Shelby, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 13-3.

As of now, neither Kinston nor the Golden Lions have any future games scheduled.
