Softball Preview: Dakota Ridge Eagles vs. Pomona Panthers
Dakota Ridge has been away from home for two games now, but on Thursday they'll finally make their return. They will welcome the Pomona Panthers at 4:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Having struggled with six losses in a row, Dakota Ridge finally turned things around against Standley Lake on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Gators 9-8.
Avery Andrews made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Andrews was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, a triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Madison Dzialo was excellent, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and a double. Another player making a difference was Lexi Bortscheller, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI.
Dakota Ridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Meanwhile, Pomona sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Conifer on Tuesday.
Lizzie DeVries spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits. Those seven innings set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Pomona got a massive performance out of Lia Martinez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Julyssa Garcia, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Dakota Ridge's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-8. As for Pomona, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
