Whitley County waltzed into their match on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They put the hurt on the Harlan Green Dragons with a sharp 11-4 win. Considering the Colonels have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Trey Walton looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in 16 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Caden Mountjoy and EJ Allen did most of the damage at the plate: Mountjoy went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI, while Allen got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those four RBI gave Mountjoy a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jason Nunley, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Whitley County's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 30-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Harlan, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-11.
