Baseball Game Preview: Moore Catholic Mavericks vs. Archbishop Stepinac Crusaders

The Moore Catholic Mavericks are taking a road trip to square off against the Archbishop Stepinac Crusaders at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Moore Catholic is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.

Archbishop Stepinac's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Monday: Moore Catholic hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Mavericks blew past McKee Vo-Tech 6-0 on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Mavericks, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on JUSTIN NELSON, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. JP LOMBARDI also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Archbishop Stepinac nor St. Peter's made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Crusaders fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 2-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Crusaders in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost five in a row.

Moore Catholic pushed their record up to 13-6-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Archbishop Stepinac, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

Moore Catholic came out on top in a nail-biter against Archbishop Stepinac in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
