Recap: New London Whalers vs. Varsity Opponent

The New London Whalers entered their tilt with Varsity Opponent with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. New London came out on top against Varsity Opponent by a score of 56-43 on Saturday. That's another feather in the cap for New London, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.

It was another big night for Devan Williams, who scored 18 points along with six steals. The game was his fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Savahn Warren, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and five steals.

New London's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Varsity Opponent, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 209-777-7.

New London will head out on the road to face off against Norwich Free Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Norwich Free Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Connecticut Rankings (they are ranked 66th, while New London is ranked ninth). Varsity Opponent will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Mater Dei Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Mater Dei Catholic has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 565 points over their last eight matches.
