Baseball Recap: New Trier Comes Up Short

New Trier fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Fremd on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 4-3. The Trevians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

New Trier got a good showing from Justin Rausch, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rausch has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Caiden Carpenter was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Ben Toft, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

New Trier moved to 7-2-1 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Fremd, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-0-1.

Coming up, New Trier will face off against Joliet Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fremd, they will host Grant Community at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 3.1, the Bulldogs 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
