Artesia is a perfect 7-0 against Deming since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Artesia Bulldogs will be taking part in a tournament against the Deming Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Artesia is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Cobre, who was ranked ninth at the time (Artesia was ranked 19th). Artesia never let Cobre get on the board and left with a 4-0 win on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Kayden Apodaca made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Makayla Lujan was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Deming). They walked away with a 6-1 victory over Robertson on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Cristal Enriquez was a standout: she scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Those runs marked the first that she scored this season. Another player making a difference was Jacqueline Aguayo, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Artesia now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Deming, their victory bumped their record up to 2-5.
Deming's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Artesia hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. It's a different story for Deming, though, as they've only averaged .242. Will they be able to contain Artesia's hitters?
Artesia took their win against Deming in their previous matchup on Friday by a conclusive 17-2. Will Artesia repeat their success, or does Deming have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
