Football Recap: Newton Skates Past Grovetown with Ease + How To Watch

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Grayson, Newton was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Grovetown Warriors, posting a 30-0 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Rams' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Warriors are ranked 192nd).

Newton found their leader in sophomore Kevin Hartsfield, who rushed for 100 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries. The Rams are 3-1 when Hartsfield posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise.

One reason for the win was Newton's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for eight sacks. Cameron Horne was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He has been hot recently, having also posted seven or more total tackles the last four times he's played. Another thorn in Grovetown's side was Zacari Lawrence, who picked up a sack, forced two fumbles, and made 11 total tackles.

Newton now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Grovetown, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-4.

Newton will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on the 17th. The Rams will be up against the Patriots' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Grovetown, they have already played their next matchup, a 42-0 defeat against Archer on the 10th.
