Baseball Recap: Sterling Takes a Loss

The matchup between Sterling and Sycamore on Monday hardly resembled the 4-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Golden Warriors took a 13-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans. The Golden Warriors were not able to make up for their loss to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Wyatt Cassens and Drew Nettleton stepped up to the plate in a big way. Cassens went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double, while Nettleton went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Lincoln Davis was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Sterling has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-20 record this season. As for Sycamore, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 16-13.

Coming up, Sterling will challenge Dixon at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games the Dukes & Duchesses have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Sycamore, they will be playing at home against East Moline United at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
